Choichi & Masai

Outdoor 2011

Choichi Nishikawa is a renowned printmaker and visual artist born in Hokkaido, Japan. He completed his studies at Tokyo Zokei University. His work is characterized by minimalist abstraction. He is widely recognized for his mastery of the monotype technique and his innovative use of offset printing plates combined with *koyori* (traditional Japanese paper strings) to create deep textures in his pieces. Nishikawa maintains a strong connection to the Portuguese art scene; he has led prestigious lithography workshops at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto (FBAUP) and actively participated in residencies and exhibitions at the Cerveira Biennial. In 2012, he organized the project "Spin the Japanese Fine Arts, Now" in the city of Porto.

Takashi Masai is a Japanese visual artist and creator often associated with projects that blend contemporary art with digital or technological approaches. He has collaborated with Choichi Nishikawa on exhibitions and international exchange residencies. Together with Nishikawa, he participated as a guest artist in the 2011 Vila Nova de Cerveira Biennial, helping to build cultural bridges and share Japanese artistic sensibilities in northern Portugal.
